Putting a Great Outdoors Brand on a Path to Greater Organic Search — and Revenue

When you’re one of the world's top outposts for outdoor products and gear, the last thing you want is to be up “s” creek without a paddle when it comes to organic visitors and sales. Back in 2015, Cabela’s had a strong site and beloved brand but they needed a multifaceted content marketing approach to boost their search rankings and drive sales — with organic traffic numbers trending in the wrong direction. Ultimately, their hunt for the right partner lead them to ClearVoice, where deeper revenue streams awaited.

Using a tactical approach, the ClearVoice team — comprised of a content strategist, SEO specialist and account manager — immediately got to work. The result was a comprehensive content strategy that included everything from keyword analysis to thought leadership that positioned Cabela’s as a greater authority in the outdoor space.
The plan also included creative assets such as infographics that were designed to fit nicely into the new content distribution strategy developed by ClearVoice. Relationship-building was also key, as was link optimization, to support Cabela’s off-page content by recruiting hundreds of reputable third-party sites and influencers with clout to create content.
All told, it was a global effort executed by a multitude of ClearVoice talent pieces in conjunction with Cabela's — from editors to designers to SEO specialists. Not a blind fishing expedition.

The efforts paid off. In the first 12 months, Cabela’s year-to-year organic search traffic shot up 20 percent thanks to improved rankings for 11,000+ keywords.
As a result, several of Cabela’s most important pages shot up to #1 on Google — based on keywords and search terms for items like "camo pants" and "safety boots." Cabela’s Senior Manager of Digital Marketing at the time, Chris Rocha, credited the ClearVoice content strategists and editorial content team for finding an "impressive roster of influencers and relevant content creators who help[ed] us get the right voices and amplification behind our content."
An additional benefit to improved content on Cabela’s pages was that their Adwords Quality Score improved overall, helping drop their cost-per-click on Google ads by a whopping 30%.
