New infographic extols the virtues of emails done right
If your email marketing efforts need a shot in the arm, a new infographic from Campaign Monitor might help. In addition to discussing the virtues of email marketing, the infographic contains some compelling data to show how your email marketing campaigns could be better. For example:
- Automated emails generate 320% more revenue than manual emails.
- Nearly 3 out of 4 customers are frustrated when they receive an email that isn’t relevant.
- More emails are now opened on mobile devices than on desktops. During the holiday season, 75 percent of emails are opened on mobile devices.
- Personalized emails receive 2.5x as many click-throughs and 6x as many sales as non-personalized emails.

BuzzSumo releases analysis of 100 million Facebook videos
A recent analysis of 100 million Facebook videos by BuzzSumo shows that Facebook users engage most with food videos more than any other video type — and its not even close. In fact, people engage with food videos more than twice as much as the second-place category: Fashion & Beauty. That’s good news if you work in those industries, but if you are creating videos about the marketing, real estate, or finance industries, the outlook is much less cheerful — as videos for these industries receive only a small fraction of the food industry’s video engagement.
Other items of interest from the report include:
- Videos approximately 60-90 seconds are most engaged with.
- The longer Facebook Live videos are, the more they grow in interactions — until about 15 minutes, at which time the interactions level off.
- The most-engaged with videos have accompanying post text that is pretty short — about 84 characters on average.
Report: Mobile users spend more than half their time on Facebook- and Google-owned apps
Not only do Facebook and Google own the top six most-used mobile apps, but the companies also own eight of the top 10 most-used apps. As if that weren’t enough, a new comScore report concludes that mobile users are spending more than half of their time on their favorite five apps. That’s good news for Google and Facebook and valuable information for marketers who are wondering which apps they should use to optimize their presence. The top 10 mobile apps include:

- Google Maps
- Google Play

Facebook announces retirement of 17 ad formats
Due to low usage — and to ensure businesses get the most value out of their ads — Facebook has announced that 17 ad formats will be retired starting on Sept. 15. You can see the full list of the types of ads that will be expired, but some of the ad types you might miss include:
- Boosting the share of a note
- Boosting place recommendations
- Boosting a profile photo change
- Boosting a sporting event
- Boosting the share of a video playlist

Facebook to block fake news sharers from advertising
Facebook took another stride this week in its fight against fake news by announcing that pages that repeatedly share fake news will no longer be able to advertise on the platform. In a blog post, Facebook representatives said that the purpose of blocking these pages from advertising is to help ensure they don’t profit from misinformation.
